Laidig Extended Family Photos at Home in Mishawaka, Indiana

What happens when four generations of love, laughter, and family tradition come together for a photo session? Absolute magic. Over Labor Day weekend, this incredible family gathered at their home in Mishawaka, Indiana, to celebrate their connections, their memories, and the joy of just being together.

Special doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Location: At Home in Mishawaka

This session was extra meaningful because it took place at home—a place filled with history, comfort, and love. This is actually the second time I’ve had the honor of photographing this family in their beautiful rural Mishawaka home, and wow, the family has grown! (Check out their last session here.)

We kicked off the session with the full family portrait—because let’s be honest, getting everyone together (and smiling!) at once is a true accomplishment. Great-Grandparents joined us for the "Everybody Shot" right on the patio, making things easier for them. Their presence made the session even more special, adding a sense of legacy that’s impossible to recreate.

Beth also set up the cutest backdrop near their massive woodpile (props for the creative vision, Beth!). After capturing smaller groupings, some of the family headed inside for homemade ice cream and the Notre Dame game, while the rest wandered out to the pond for more relaxed moments.

One of my favorite parts of extended family sessions? When the formal shots are done, and everyone gets a little more playful. The cousins started requesting fun photos with each other, and those spontaneous moments are always secretly my favorite.

When Mimi spotted Brittany twirling her little girl, she couldn’t resist asking for her own twirl with Chief. It’s moments like these—the laughter, the love, the genuine joy—that make lifestyle family photography so meaningful to me.

Details I’m Loving

Hands down, the highlight of the session was the series of photos of Matt and Beth. These two are #goals in every way. After another 20 years of marriage, I hope my husband and I are still looking at each other like newlyweds.

I posted a video of their photos set to a sweet little song on Instagram (watch it here). Beth’s reaction?
“Love the video! It just makes me smile. If it ends up looking like it had 3,000 views, that’s just me watching it over and over again! I love the song you put it with! Perfect!”

Beyond being absolutely adorable, Matt and Beth are kind, wise, and just plain wonderful. I’ve known them for 28 years, and they’ve been there for me through every chapter of my life—whether I was a drama-filled teenager at 14 or going through tough times at 38. They’re the kind of people who show up at your door with flowers just when you need them. I want to be them when I grow up.

Client Love

"These are soooo good, Lindsey! Love them all!" -Tiffany

When it comes to extended family sessions, there’s no place like home. Other Mishawaka photographers might have their own opinions, but I think home sessions are where it’s at. You can have dinner or dessert before or after, catch a game, and enjoy the comfort of being surrounded by memories. Invite me along for 45 minutes or so, and let’s make those moments last forever.

If you’re ready to capture your family’s story in 2025, don’t wait! These sessions fill up quickly. Inquire here.
