A special kind of magic happens when you have a real moment mixed with sweetness captured on film.

Like many of you, I place a high value on sentimentality, but also on realism. A little tantrum here, a “blooper” there… adding just a drop or two of reality into your film grounds it and takes away the lie that “my family isn’t perfect so I can participate in a session like this”.

We have a funny clip of our middle boy crying when he was about 2. He is crying and crying and he finally says he wants cheese. Cut to the next video. He is crying his eyes out in his high chair and when we ask him what’s wrong, it’s because he doesn’t want cheese, which he tells us super loudly and angrily. Lol. This is the kind of funny stuff I like to sprinkle in if possible. That day was probably so frustrating, but in hindsight, it’s hilarious.

If you’re not sure how to capture your family’s true authenticity, let me try a crack at it. I will inevitably record a few tantrums, a bit of pouting and so much silliness. Whether I am taking photos or video, I like to let those moments happen. I’m not going to make your whole film about the temper tantrum, don’t worry. But adding a little healthy does of reality in will probably bring a smile to your face a few years from now.

Your family does NOT have to be perfect or on best behavior for our session. They just have to be together! I’ll make it look good, promise. (And that has nothing to do with me. Your family being together IS good. Truth.)
