Mr. Max's First Birthday Pictures | Goshen, IN Family Photographer
Every photography business course I have ever taken has asked me to write out my “ideal client” in as much detail as possible. I have half-completed this exercise so many times, always quitting the job. How can you describe what you are looking for in a client? Writing the list starts off easy:
values photography
loves their family
wants to pass on memories to their children
good values and morals
That’s about where I lose it. Most photography business coaches ask you to write out where you’d prefer them to shop, spend their extra time, vacation… Guys. I just can’t do it. Everyone is different, and frankly, I could care less where you shop or vacay. I love meeting new people and hearing about their unique stories, so I don’t want cookie cutter people filling up my inbox.
Ideal clients? I don’t know what that means when I try to put it down on paper, but I know now that this family is them. Dream clients. I am so lucky to have worked with them 3 times this year. Adding a few bullets to the list is easier now that I know them:
supportive - Amber is constantly “liking” all my pictures on IG and commenting on them. It’s encouraging to see that my photos are connecting with someone. It lifts me up. Family and friends are booking me based on her recommendation.
trusting - They trust my judgement when it comes to location, time, rescheduling, posing, even which pictures look best in an album together. That means so much. When I am feeling trusted, I’m feeling confident. When I am feeling confident, I know I can put out my best work.
grateful - It’s so nice to sort of become “friends” with my clients. Seeing her personal posts about how grateful she is to be a mom makes we just want to give her all the beautiful pictures of her family.
It looks like I value the good stuff in my clients, their values, encouragement, support.. much more than their closet, favorite brands, or what kind of car they drive. I finally figured it out! <3
The Yergers joined me at my new favorite fall pictures spot in Mishawaka, IN on a seriously gorgeous evening. These one year old pictures turned out practically perfect, if you ask me!
You know me. I love videography too much to not include a Mini Film of all that cuteness. I’m making these a priority. Is this something you’d like to add on to a photo package? I’m curious!
So many favorites this time! I love love love the ones of Max and his mom. They are so beautiful to me, and make me feel. I love the walking picture where Max is looking up at mom. What’s your favorite?
