3 Tips for Great Family Photos (Part 1)
Hey, hey, it's Friday! Can you feel the excitement in the air? It's the best time of the week to unwind, but if you're gearing up for a family photo session, I get it – the pressure can sneak in too. Picture this: you're trying to get the kids in the right mood, your outfit’s all wrong, and you’re wondering if you’ll ever get that perfect shot. Trust me, I’ve been there. Whether you’re the one behind the camera or in front of it, family photo sessions can feel stressful. But with a few tips, I promise you’ll feel way more relaxed and actually enjoy the experience.
Location Details:
If you’re wondering about locations for these photos, look no further than the beautiful outdoors! A gorgeous park, a golden field, or even your own backyard can make for the most magical settings. My advice? Go for natural light – it does wonders, trust me. I know, sometimes it feels like there's a perfect place only in Pinterest, but the best locations are often the ones that make you feel most comfortable.
I. Review the Blog and Website
Before your session, check out the photographer’s blog and website to make sure their style matches your vision. Imagine expecting perfectly posed newborn photos with a baby in a bonnet, but what you really get is a photographer who’s more about authentic, relaxed shots. It’s good to know what you're in for. Be sure to communicate about what you do and don’t want in your family photos – this will save time and reduce stress during the session.
II. Let Me Help You Look Your Best
During the shoot, I'm all about making sure you feel relaxed and look amazing. I’ll probably ask if I can adjust your hair, your arm, or even shift your posture. Don’t worry, it’ll feel awkward for a second, but trust me, you’ll be looking fantastic in the final shot. I always remind myself that the best shots happen when we just roll with it. Plus, I’m pretty awkward too – so no judgment here!
III. Outfit Planning – Don’t Stress It
I know, choosing outfits can feel like a nightmare. My suggestion? Dress comfortably, but also go for something that makes you feel fabulous. If you’re not sure about what to wear, ask me! I’m always happy to help with outfit suggestions. Maybe it’s a flowy dress, or something simple but elegant. Skip matching everyone in the same colour (unless that’s your thing!) – aim for coordinating outfits that feel natural.
Family photoshoots don’t have to be a stressful experience. With a little planning and the right photographer, you'll end up with timeless images that capture your true selves. Remember to keep things relaxed and have fun with it – after all, that's what makes the best memories! Stay tuned for part two of these tips – I’ve got even more advice to help you nail your next family session.
