Extended Family Photos in South Haven, MI: Capturing Precious Memories

If you’re planning a family getaway to South Haven, Michigan, why not make the most of it by scheduling a family photo session? Imagine gathering your entire crew – from the grandparents to the kiddos – and freezing those precious memories in time. Trust me, this is a BIG YES from me. Whether you're celebrating a milestone or just enjoying quality time together, these photos will forever be a reminder of your special getaway.

Location Details:

This extended family session took place at Dyckman Park, located just behind the access to Dyckman Beach. This charming park sits between Lake Michigan and the Maritime Museum, offering a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere for family photos. With the boats at the marina and the nearby coffee shop, it’s a spot that combines nature and nautical vibes. Pro tip: If you need a coffee break after the session, swing by Bunde’s Bakery and Cafe for a sticky pecan roll. Trust me, it’s worth it!

But what if you’re thinking…

We don’t want the beach!

Newsflash! Just because you’re vacationing at the beach doesn’t mean you need to shoot your family photos on the sand. In fact, there are several reasons why beach photos may not be the best fit for your crew. For starters, if someone in your family has mobility issues – whether due to age, injury, or disability – walking on the sand can be challenging. Then, there’s the potential for distractions. If you have little ones (especially ones under 4 years old), the beach can become more of a playground than a photo shoot location. And let’s not forget about the timing: sunrise sessions are the best for capturing that gorgeous light, but not everyone is up for a 6 AM wake-up call, especially on vacation. For those who prefer to sleep in or can’t stay up late, a park might be a much better option for your family photo session.

Parks near beach towns are great options

South Haven, Holland, Union Pier, St. Joseph, or New Buffalo all offer incredible parks that make for perfect family photo spots. And hey, your vacation rental home could be an excellent option too! If you want to skip the beach but still get stunning family photos, let’s chat and find the perfect place for your session.

Details I’m Loving:

What really stood out to me about this session was the energy of the family. With 16 people (including eight kids), the excitement was contagious! What made this shoot so special wasn’t just the stunning location, but how relaxed everyone was. With extended family photos, it can often feel like you’re trying to herd cats, but this group made it so easy. We got beautiful shots full of genuine smiles and laughs, and the whole crew was so at ease, which made for an effortless and enjoyable session. A family photo session should never feel stressful, and this one truly wasn’t!

Capturing memories during family vacations is one of my absolute favorite things to do, and South Haven, Michigan is a beautiful backdrop for those photos. Whether you’re drawn to the beaches or prefer the charming parks, there’s a perfect spot to capture your family’s joy and connection. So, if you’re planning a trip to South Haven, let’s make sure to set up a photo session so you can treasure these moments forever.
