Playful Family Pictures near South Bend, Indiana
Buckle up, folks. This one’s a doozy on the eyes! I present to you: thee must beautiful family on thee most beautiful July night.
I haven’t seen Kate since we were tiny, but we’ve stayed social-media friends. She has been the most dedicated supporter of this little photography business. If you’re a small business owner, you get it. Those encouraging words and comments are never lost on us! Her hub is a talented photographer. Anytime a request for a shoot comes from another photographer, I feel first honored, and then at tiny bit of nerves. Does the imposter syndrome ever go away completely? Let me know. Ha. Since they live out on the east coast, we’ve been trying to make family pictures happen for the last few years, and yay! We finally got it done. It was so worth the wait. I think this session takes the record for the most photos I’ve taken and the most photos I’ve delivered. They are just all so darn beautiful!
Cobus Creek
When discussing options for our session location, Kate said she was interested in somewhere that looked more wild than manicured. She also mentioned that she would love to find some water to play near. At the time, I immediately thought of Cobus Creek. There is juuuuuuuust enough structure to create a beautiful photo, but it’s wild enough for what she was looking for: meadows, wild flowers, forests and water. The cute fishing pier is a must! Perfect!
At the last minute, I had second thoughts on the location. I had just shot a session there, and it was so green (IYKYK) and kind of blah. I am so glad that we stuck to the plan, because the glowy July light was perfection.
Details I’m Loving
On the booking questionnaire, Kate told me she had one bug hunting girl and another little lady who constantly sings and dances to her current favorite movie’s songs. Halfway through my session, I looked through the viewfinder to see both of those activities happening at the same time. What luck! Snap, snap.
Another question: what is something you know you will miss even though it annoys you now? Answer: her daughters pulling and holding her hair. Guess what? I saw a lot of that, too. Snap, snap.
I love when that happens. Lucky timing, maybe. Paying attention to my clients, sure. :) This beautiful bunch, the glowy July light, the connections between them that I couldn’t manufacture if I tried… it was a dream session!
