Engagement Photos at Notre Dame: A Love Story by the Basilica
When one of my former Notre Dame grads reached out to book an engagement session, my heart did a little happy dance. After all, when my graduation clients leave South Bend, they usually scatter to far-off corners of the country. I often think, This is it. I’ll never see them again! But then, life happens. They come back for reunions, weddings, baptisms, and yes—engagement photos. It’s always such a joy to see familiar faces and be part of their next big milestones.
This late November session was no exception, even though South Bend’s winter chill made an early appearance. Despite some rescheduled dates (hello, Midwest weather!), we finally got the perfect overcast day to capture this couple’s love story.
Location Details: University of Notre Dame
Notre Dame’s campus is always a dream, but this session had some extra special touches. We started at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, where they’ll be tying the knot next year. From there, we made our way to the Grotto, where they lit a candle and prayed together—a quiet, beautiful moment I was honored to witness.
The lake area has seen some lovely upgrades, so we couldn’t resist capturing a few photos with its scenic new features. The late fall colors were fading fast, and truthfully almost gone, but the natural beauty of the campus was as stunning as ever.

A Familiar Face: Seeing this bride-to-be again, after working with her during her graduation session, reminded me just how much I love reconnecting with former clients. Notre Dame has a way of bringing people back home, and I’m so grateful to be a part of their stories.
Layering Up: Late November in South Bend means layers. This couple braved the cold like champs, and her cozy wrap paired perfectly with her elegant outfit choices. A reminder that practical can still be beautiful in photos!
That Basilica Backdrop: There’s something timeless and iconic about engagement photos in front of the Basilica. Add in the knowledge that it’ll be their wedding venue next year, and it’s just... chef’s kiss.
