Tradition and Giggles: A Sweet Family Session in Mishawaka

Every now and then, a session feels like a heartwarming story brought to life, and this was one of those. From the moment I saw “Roc” on the questionnaire, I knew I’d love this family. Why? Because my own son is named Rocco, and there’s just something special about hearing that adorable, unique name in someone else’s world.

This session wasn’t just about photos—it was about capturing the beautiful chaos of life with a curious one-year-old, a goofy golden retriever, and a family rooted in tradition and love.

Location - Meadow’s Edge Elementary School

Once again, Mishawaka’s Meadow’s Edge Elementary School proved to be the perfect backdrop for these fall family pictures. With its textured paths and autumn vibes, it set the stage for this sweet family story to unfold.

Details I’m Loving

First, let’s talk about Roc. At just one year old, he’s in that delightful stage of being shy at first but full of giggles once he warms up. He’s crawling like a champ, standing with a little support, and absolutely fascinated by the world around him. I love the way his mom described him in the questionnaire. She said she loves “Getting lost in his dark brown eyes and how he inhales when he laughs instead of exhales:)”. How sweet.

Of course, the family’s four-year-old golden retriever tagged along. Let’s just say he lived up to the golden retriever reputation: goofy, lovable, and always ready to be part of the action. The photo of him and Roc staring at each other cracks me up!

This session was also packed with sentimental touches. Roc’s mom brought a brown checked shirt that belonged to her father. A heavy a chaise lounge was carried throughout the property because of it’s sentimentality. It’s been in the family for at least four generations—she even used it in her senior photos! Totally worth the sweat of schlepping it around! The little rocking chair is also handmade by grandpa. I’m serious—this was a very sweet, sentimental session. As I was snapping away, I could tell they’d be the kind of images this family would treasure for generations. (Spoiler alert: both sets of grandparents confirmed this when they saw the gallery!)

And while Roc wasn’t a fan of the adorable boots his mom brought, we did manage to snag one fleeting picture of him in them. Victory!

Client Love

Hi Lindsey!
We just looked through the gallery and OH.MY.GOODNESS…they are so so precious. I can’t thank you enough for capturing my whole heart in every picture ❤️ both grandparents want every single rocking chair picture I am pretty sure lol 😂

Thanks again for sharing your gift with us! ❤️

What a privilege it is to capture these fleeting moments—the velcro baby days, the family heirlooms, the laughter. This family’s love for tradition and each other reminded me of why I adore this work. Life is busy, messy, and beautiful, and it deserves to be celebrated in every way.

To this sweet family: thank you for letting me capture your story. I’m still smiling thinking about it. 🥰
