Friday Five | Five Favorite Lake Michigan Beaches
I try to make it to Lake Michigan as often as possible during the summer, but let's be honest—it's never enough. How incredible would it be to hit the lottery and move up there? #dreams
But I’m curious—what are your favorite beaches? Share them with me! I love discovering new spots, and I’m always up for a beach adventure.
1) New Buffalo
This one’s a classic, and it’s no surprise why. New Buffalo is close, has great food, and the beach is fun for everyone. It's got some rocks, but the smooth, flat ones are perfect for skipping stones. One of my favorite things to do here is hunt for beach glass—New Buffalo is hands down the best spot to find it. So if you're new to the area, definitely make this your first stop!
2) Silver Beach
Silver Beach is one of the most popular spots around, and for good reason! It’s the go-to beach when we want a day of sun and fun. Located just a short drive from South Bend, it offers everything: great swimming for kids, lots of parking, a big fountain, playground, carousel, and, of course, food and bathrooms. Plus, there's the pier to walk on and a historic lighthouse to check out. Silver Beach has it all.
3) Grand Mere
Grand Mere is a hidden gem. It’s a bit more of a challenge to get to—prepare to climb over hot dunes while carrying all your gear (and kids!). There are no amenities here, which adds to the secluded, wild charm of the place. The beauty of this beach makes the effort totally worth it. It’s one of the best, in my opinion.
4) Rocky Gap
I discovered Rocky Gap last year, thanks to some locals while we were grabbing ice cream in St. Joe. It’s a quiet beach, located north of Silver Beach, with a small parking lot and a peaceful, wide stretch of beach. I love how empty it is, especially when I’m looking for a more serene spot. It’s the perfect beach for a relaxing afternoon away from the crowds. You can bet I’ll be back this year.
5) Tiscornia
Saving the best for last—Tiscornia is my all-time favorite beach. Every year, when I step over the last step leading down to the beach, I’m in awe. The view always takes my breath away, and I’m always reluctant to leave. It’s a fantastic beach with a paid parking lot, bathrooms, and not too many people. Tiscornia offers great swimming, a pier, and a relaxed vibe. Honestly, it’s paradise.
Enjoy Your Trips!
