3 Reasons to Take Your Family Pictures at Home in Southwestern Michigan

Encouraging families to choose their own home for family photos is a no-brainer for me. Here’s why.

1. Outfits are easy

Imagine: you turn your calendar page to see that family pictures are just a couple weeks away. Instead of the pre-session preparations of shopping your closet or the store, for brand new outfits that are uncomfortable, perfectly coordinated, expensive and “not you”, you can simply wear your slightly dressed up version of your every-day outfit.

2. Everyone is comfortable at home

You know your kids will be comfortable at home. You won’t have to worry about distractions of new places, eating the sand at the beach or jumping in the water with their clothes on. They will be comfortable at home right away, and you will be able to tell. Kids that take pictures at home need a few minutes to warm up to me, but they don’t have the sensory overload of a brand new place. This is especially nice for younger kids.

3. You get to show the real stuff

Current toddler obsessions and a true sense of your daily life are captured better in a session at your home than at a park. It’s not debatable. If you find yourself wanting to bottle up every good part of your family’s current stage, this is the way to go. You can have half “posed” pictures and half candid, real life memory shots. There’s nothing better if you ask me!

I was touched by Mom’s response because it reminded me once again, that what I see is just a tiny fraction of what mom and dad see.

These all make me so dang happy. There are little details in each photo that capture things I have etched into my memory about this time. Like the one with L playing hopscotch. He’s really into identifying numbers (especially 8) and he’s always collecting things, and is holding the stick in the photo. Even the posed family photo in the lane: D always wants “up” and L always wants to be independent. Or running through the sprinklers with that silly deflated purple ball. We can’t get rid of it! They wear it around like a hat outside and use it as a play prop. Anyways. That’s a lot just to say thank you, again, from the bottom of my heart! We appreciate your vision and your talent to capture the raw, day to day of this moment in time.
