Indianapolis Family Film + Photo Session

When Photos Meet Film — and It All Clicks

When this beautiful mama called about bringing me down to Indy for a family film, I got really excited.

I hung up the phone with a huge smile on my face and immediately said a little prayer of thanks. She found me on Instagram (cool!) — and then gushed about the family films she’d seen there (YES!).

I always love when someone reaches out to me as a family photographer. But anyone following along here knows my business has shifted toward family films — the kind that let you hear the laughter, see the movement, and feel the love long after the moment is gone.

The tricky part? Not many people know they exist yet. So, when someone finds them, falls in love, and immediately wants one — my heart does a happy dance. Let’s gooooo, as my kids would say.

A cozy in-home family photo of parents reading with their kids on colorful twin beds in a bright, cheerful bedroom — a snapshot of real family connection and calm.

The Dream Client Connection

During our chat, I quickly realized she was every photographer’s dream — checking every box on that “ideal client” list small business owners talk about.

But here’s the one that got me most excited: she places tremendous value in photos, but even more in videos.

She told me her kids love sitting around the TV watching family videos she’s stitched together — something that immediately made me smile, because mine do the same thing. Almost daily, they’re watching short “professional” films or the long, unedited home videos I make every year. I did the same thing as a kid — watching our camcorder tapes over and over.

She was speaking my language.

Throw in a beautiful family, a stunning home, and a dreamy Indianapolis neighborhood… and you’ve got my idea of a perfect Saturday.

Words That Stuck With Me

She said something I can’t stop thinking about:

“I want to remember how much love and happiness the kids really do bring to our family and marriage — how they actually bring us closer. In this season of life, it’s so easy to get frustrated when we’ve all been together so much, but I want to remember the good in it… the way it taught us to slow down and really enjoy each other.”

Well said, Mrs. P. I couldn’t agree more.

After a week-long vacation last month — all five of us in a single hotel room — I felt that “frustrated when we’ve all been together so much” part deeply. But when you look back, it’s the memories, the laughter, and the shared chaos that knit you together that much tighter.

A Fast-Paced Film for a Fast-Paced Season

I chose a faster-paced edit for this family — it just felt right. Raising three littles under five isn’t exactly peaceful or slow (ha!). It’s wild and busy and loud and so full of connection.

I wanted to capture that rhythm — the laughter, the hugs, the quick dashes down hallways — all the moments that make this season beautifully exhausting. And I love the way it came together.

What do you think?
